Dental Restoration

Your white teeth need not look ugly anymore. There are 2 ways of having beautiful  back teeth

  1. Composite restoration
  2. Porcelain Onlays and Inlays

Advantages :

  • Much more conservative tooth preparation no excess unnecessary removal of healthy tooth structure.
  • Mercury free restorations.
  • Better tooth form and function
  • Better marginal integrity
  • Easy to maintain and repair.

Tooth colored fillings are made from durable plastics called composite resins. Similar in color and texture to natural teeth, the fillings are less noticeable, and much more attractive, than other types of fillings. These fillings are now becoming the standard of care for back teeth.

Dental Restorations using Amalgam Fillings

  •  Used by dentists for more than a century, dental amalgam is the most thoroughly researched and tested restorative material among all those in use. It is durable, easy to use, highly resistant to wear and relatively inexpensive in comparison to other materials. For those reasons, it remains a valued low cost treatment option for patients.
  •  The silver-colored filling is not as natural looking as one that is tooth-colored, especially when the restoration is near the front of the mouth, and shows when the patient laughs or speaks. To prepare the tooth, the dentist may need to remove more tooth structure to accommodate an amalgam filling than for other types of fillings.

An inlay or onlay is a solid filling made outside the mouth, and then cemented into the tooth.

  • It is long lasting and made of porcelain bonded to metal, or of pure porcelain.
  • This is a superior type of restoration that is used to replace unsightly, discoloured fillings.
  • The dentist removes the unattractive filling, and takes an impression, which is sent to the dental technician.
  • A natural looking replacement filling is then made.
  • A temporary filling will be placed in the tooth to protect it while the restoration is being made.
  • The filling is then placed into the prepared cavity and held in place by cement.
