Crown Lengthening

Cosmetic contouring of the teeth involves reshaping and straightening natural teeth. It can be used for broken, chipped, long, crooked, or irregularly shaped teeth. The important factors that need to be considered before contouring the teeth include their thickness. However, your dentist may take an x-ray before the procedure to make sure that your tooth is thick enough to allow it to be contoured without creating problems. Over-contouring can result in sensitive teeth, or even make the tooth susceptible to breakage. Tooth contouring gives the illusion of a good, natural alignment, while being minimally invasive. It is quick, relatively inexpensive and usually requires no anesthesia.
Crown lengthening is a procedure to remove excess gum and bone tissue to reshaped and expose more of the natural tooth. Periodontal procedures are available to lay the groundwork for restorative and cosmetic dentistry and/or to improve the esthetics of your gum line. Crown lengthening adjusts the gum and bone level to expose more of the tooth so it can be restored. This can be done to one tooth, to even the gum line, or to several teeth to expose a natural, broad smile. It is a restorative or cosmetic dental procedure. The benefits: It results in a beautiful new smile and improved periodontal health. The improved aesthetics are keys to smiling, eating and speaking with comfort and confidence
In cases that require a more significant change, cosmetic contouring may be combined with accelerated orthodontic treatment or the placement of porcelain veneers or crowns over other teeth to suit your cosmetic needs.

Cosmetic Repositioning

Porcelain veneers and crowns are extremely lifelike and hold their brilliance, unlike bonding which often appears bulky or fake. Although porcelain is an extremely translucent material, it is also very strong. Porcelain veneers and crowns are permanent restorations, and they can be expected to last for many years. Also, there are no food restrictions - once they are cemented you can eat normally (apples, corn on the cob, etc.) - porcelain simply covers the imperfections in your own smile!
Porcelain jacket crowns and laminate veneers both require two office visits. At the first appointment we remove any old bonding and prepare the teeth. We also take impressions and choose the shade and shape of the porcelain. When you leave the office, temporary bonding is used to cover the prepared teeth. Approximately one week later, the porcelain veneers or crowns are permanently cemented at the second appointment.

They are often used to fix gaps between teeth, or cover stained or irregular teeth. This procedure is usually not reversible because a very thin surface of enamel is removed to give room for the shells.
